Beerfest and the Potfest Movie
Monday, November 30, 2009
The web has come alive as readers search for information about “Potfest” a sequel to the Broken Lizard team’s 2006 cinematic ode to alcohol Beerfest.
Speculation was incited by the Beerfest movie itself which ended claiming that the sequel, Potfest, was just on the horizon. Since the film the creative team behind Beerfest indicated that this was simply a publicity tool used by the film to poke some fun at the audience.
Although the idea of a Potfest movie was originally a joke according to a member of the filming team, Kevin Heffernan, the massive amount of fan interest in the project have made Broken Lizard reconsider the projects viability.
But the project may have a twist fans won’t be expecting. In an interview granted to IGN Heffernan states that, “It [Potfest] will, of course, be a sequel to Beerfest. But we're thinking maybe we might make this one animated; an R-rated, animated comedy. You don't see many of those."
Beerfest itself was considered a box office success. Warner Bros. and Broken Lizard's goal for Beerfest was a $20-million dollar box office return and sources indicate that the film pulled a $19.2 million profit.
With a strong pot smoking fan base, which may now include Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps, the promise of a positive return and the interest that the film has already managed to stir up; perhaps this project is a viable option after all. Still, as yet, nothing has been confirmed.
