Supernatural': Sam & Dean vs. TV's Best Brothers

Thursday, October 1, 2009

Now that Sam and Dean Winchester are split up on "Supernatural" (after Sam sided with a demon instead of Dean), our favorite TV brothers are together no more. Unfortunately, a good pair of brothers is hard to come by, as we found out when we went looking for other great examples of two-brother teams. We compared some of the most famous male-sibling teams in TV history to the Winchesters, and found most of them to be sorely lacking.

Bo and Luke Duke ("The Dukes of Hazzard")

Bo and Luke were on probation for bootlegging, so they couldn't really do much besides drive around Hazzard County helping people out and jumping over ravines in their car. At least the Winchesters can travel around the country, and they seem to have more than one change of clothes, too.

Damon and Stefan Salvatore ("The Vampire Diaries")

These guys are terrible brothers, fighting over the same girl for 400 years ago. Damon's been trying to make Stefan's life miserable and get him back to feeding on humans, while Dean makes Sam's life miserable by not letting him feed on demons. The Salvatores are like the Anti-Winchesters!

Earl and Randy Hickey ("My Name Is Earl")

The Hickeys cruised around in a classic car righting wrongs and trying to save their souls, which is similar to what the Winchesters do, except the Winchesters have a trunk full of weaponry.

Rick & A.J. Simon ("Simon & Simon")

Both private detectives, Rick was the older ex-Marine while A.J. was the younger college grad. They never faced the supernatural, but they did work with "Magnum P.I." once, which both Sam and Dean would agree was pretty awesome.

Frasier and Niles Crane ("Frasier")

The arguments that took place between these two rival psychiatrists were usually full of big words, as well as allusions to Freud, Jung and any number of historical figures. The Winchesters' arguments are mostly monosyllabic, and involve references to cartoon characters. It's hard to pick a favorite.

John and Dan Dorian ("Scrubs")

J.D. went to medical school while his older brother Dan stayed around their hometown and tended bar. It's similar to the Sam/Dean situation except J.D. didn't leave school after his girlfriend caught fire to become a bar-back, and Dean didn't get his realtor's license and buy Sam a Prius.

Michael and Nate Westen ("Burn Notice")

Occasionally, burned spy Michael will enlist his brother Nate's help, but usually it's Michael that has to get Nate out of danger. Sam and Dean are more equal and both have received their own "burn notices": Dean when he was sent to Hell, and Sam when he found out he was the vessel of Satan.
