SNL season premiere forgot to bring the funny and dropped an F-bomb
Saturday, September 26, 2009
From the cold open to the first U2 appearance to the F-bomb during a frickin' bad skit, the 35th season premiere of Saturday Night Live pretty much fell flat.
Fred Armisen's Moammar Gaddafi was mildly amusing, but the skit went on too long.
The opening was freshened up with new graphics and surprisingly Don Pardo will was there for the voiceover. As expected Darrell Hammond was not listed in the opening credits, even though he was featured on SNL Weekend Update Thursday.
Megan Fox's monologue predictably was a riff on her sex appeal and fake naked pictures of her on the Internet. It would have been nice if she could have gone past the stereotype, but pretty much every skit had her doing something "sexy."
Not a great way to show people another side.
Saturday Night Live has long been a place for actors to unleash their inner comedian, singer, dancer, etc. Christopher Walken was a master of that. Anne Hathaway had a fantastic hosting experience, broadening her scope. Megan Fox dropped the ball. Or perhaps it was the starstruck writers.
First skit: Lame. First digital short: Incredibly unfunny. Second digital short: Also not funny.
Thank goodness for Kenan Thompson. His Jean K. Jean during "Weekend Update" is always funny -- zut alors! Seth Meyers had some good lines during Update but Kristen Wiig's Judy Grimes is gettin' old. Just kidding. No I'm not. Just kidding. Yes I am. Just kidding. No I'm not.
Biker Chick Chat featured new castmember Jenny Slate, who inadvertently dropped an F-bomb on live TV. Didn't make the skit any better.
Even U2 was lackluster, with odd SNL namechecks.
They had the entire summer to come up with a bunch of great skits and this is what we got?
