Jay-Z on Oprah (video) - His father, Rihanna, the "N" word, and more

Friday, September 25, 2009

Before his week, I'm fairly certain my mom and other middle-aged women across the country weren't quite sure of who Jay-Z was. They saw him on the arm of Beyonce, but that was about it. Now they know a lot about him, thanks to Jay-Z's appearance on Oprah.

Oprah opened the show, clearly making Jay-Z uncomfortable. What deep dark question did she ask him? Where he puts his cologne on his body. That wasn't exactly enlightening, so I'll spare you that particular clip. The rest of the interview was quite interesting.

Together the pair went to Marcy project where Jay-Z grew up and to his grandmother's house. Oprah spent time talking to Jay-Z about his younger years, as well as his father abandoning him.

We also got a chance to see Jay-Z in CEO mode. He's not just a rapper; he's got lots of business decisions to make too.

Jay-Z also talked about Rihanna and the use of the "n" word in his music. (Oprah disagrees using it.) Did I mention that the all powerful Oprah also learned how to rap??

All in all, Jay-Z is an amazingly talented person. It's disappointing that more artists today can't make music of his caliber. But I hope that people who typically who do not listen to him were able to take something away from the Jay-Z Oprah interview.
