Perhaps their on-air rivalry spilled over off the air. Or maybe their long, loooong romance just ran its course. But either way, a spokesman for David Wade and Bianca de la Garza confirmed yesterday that the Boston TV couple is Splitsville.

“After 12 years, David Wade and Bianca de la Garza have decided to end their marriage,” said the couple’s agent, Mendes J. Napoli . “This is a very difficult time for both of them. Their focus remains today, and in the future, on raising their daughter. I hope you will understand how difficult this time is and respect their need for privacy.”

Napoli said the couple would have no further comment.

Word from insiders is that Bianca, who now does the morning news on Channel 5, while David does the competing broadcast on Channel 4, may have been the one to end the marriage.

“I don’t think it was his idea,” said Someone Who Knows. “He’s very sad.”

Eagle-eyed viewers report that David stopped wearing his wedding ring some time ago. And the couple’s house in Milton is on the market.

Word is, there may have been problems in the marriage for some time. An audience member said the couple seemed cold and distant when they hosted the New England Emmy Awards this past spring.

As you may know, David and Bianca have been together since 1997 when they were both reporters in Albany, N.Y.

The Bay State natives - he’s from Somerville and Tewksbury and she’s from Milton - both attended Emerson College . Five months after they met, David landed a job at FOX25 and the couple had a commuter romance until the station hired Bianca in 2001. They married shortly thereafter and their daughter, Danica, was born in 2006.

The couple decided to depart WFXT in 2007, and David landed the morning gig on WBZ . Shortly thereafter, Bianca got the call to the morning anchor desk on WCVB .

The two insisted in an interview that the on-air rivalry wouldn’t make for any awkwardness at home.

“It brings out the best in both of us,” de la Garza said at the time.
