Lesbian Photographer Annie Leibovitz Shoots Obama Family Portrait

Friday, October 23, 2009

Famed photographer and out-lesbian Annie Leibovitz shot portraits of the Obama family.

Barack, Michelle, Sasha, and Malia Obama posed for the photographer in a photo dated October 22, but posted to the White House's Flickr stream on Thursday, according to the Advocate. The photo was taken in the Green Room of the White House.

No stranger to political photos, Leibovitz was commissioned to photograph the Queen on her official visit to the US in 2007.

The 60-year-old photographer's professional relationship with Obama dates back to 2004 when he was running for the US Senate. Her family portrait taken at the political hopeful's Chicago campaign headquarters was accompanied with the caption: 'Is this the face of a future president?'

In January, she shot a portfolio for Vanity Fair of Obama and his staff. She's been spotted in and around the White House ever since. No word on how much the Washington photo session cost, though Leibovitz's rates reportedly exceed $100,000 a day.

Leibovitz took a notorious shot of John Lennon and Yoko Ono on the day the former Beatle was gunned down in New York. In her other infamous Vanity Fair photos, she also snapped unforgettable shots of a pregnant and naked Demi Moore and Whoopi Goldberg in a bath full of milk.

The Art Capital Group sued Leibovitz on July 29 in the New York State Supreme Court. Leibovitz hit a whirlwind of financial troubles when she faced possible bankruptcy after struggling to pay back the $24 million debt, but she managed to negotiate a deal to extend the due date and retain control of her catalogue.
