Browns part ways with GM George Kokinis

Tuesday, November 3, 2009

Browns GM George Kokinis left his position on Monday, the team confirmed.

The Browns denied multiple reports that Kokinis had been escorted from the building by security officials earlier in the day.

On Sunday, team owner Randy Lerner told the Cleveland Plain-Dealer that he would not fire head coach Eric Mangini, whose 1-7 team is beginning its bye week.

Lerner said he was "sick about" the team's losing and was considering hiring someone to oversee the team's football staff.

Mangini said Monday he has spoken to Lerner, but did not elaborate on the nature of their talks other than that they both wanted to improve the team.

The Akron Beacon-Journal reported that Lerner may consider adding former Giants GM Ernie Accorsi as an advisor or even a full-time staffer.

"If you can add quality people that can help you get better, than you do that," Mangini said of the Browns. "You're always searching for opportunities."
