World Series Game 2 Score Update: Pedro Martinez Dealing
Thursday, October 29, 2009
When I went to start writing this World Series game 2 score update Pedro Martinez had been masterful as he had been setting down the powerful Yankee lineup for more than five innings. Martinez had only given up three hits and one run, making one mistake to Mark Teixeira, who launched a solo home run in the fourth inning. However, he just made another mistake, giving up another solo home run, this time to Hideki Maysui. Matsui's bomb over the short porch in left field gives the Yankees a 2 - 1 lead. The game is currently through six and a half innings.
Pedro is giving his team a shot to win this game but just like last night through six innings the Yankees pitcher has been just as good. A.J. Burnett has brought his best to the table as well, giving up just four hits and one run with nine strike outs through seven innings. And the hit they called a single that drove in the Phillies run is a play that Rodriguez has made before but this time he couldn't get his glove on a Matt Stairs rocket into left filed.
Pedro is now coming out in the bottom of the seventh with 99 pitches. FOX showed Charlie Manuel asking Pedro Martinez if he is alright to go back out in the seventh and Pedro was telling him yes. I just had a bad flashback to the Red Sox 2003 ALCS against the Yankees when Grady Little left Pedro out there too long and the Sox blew game 7 and their chance to go to the World Series that year. GET HIM OUT OF THERE CHARLIE!!
Final Score Update: Yankees 3, Phillies 1
Well Chalie Manuel didn't get Pedro out of there and Martinez put the first two batters on in the seventh with no out. The Phillies got out of that jam with a little help from the umps and only surrendered one run to make it 3 - 1. That was enough runs for Mariano Rivera as he held the Phillies for a six out save. The series moves to Philadelphia tied 1 - 1.
