Sunday, October 4, 2009

MANILA, Philippines - Super typhoon "Quedan" is expected to enter the country tomorrow late afternoon or early evening, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) announced today (Oct. 4).

Packing winds reaching 195 kph, the superhowler (international name Melor) has been spotted 600 kms from the eastern side of the country, Pagasa spokesman Nathaniel Cruz said.

Quedan will be the 18th weather disturbance that enters the country this year.

Meanwhile, Cruz said typhoon "Pepeng" has virtually been in a stationary in the northwestern side of Luzon.

"Pepeng" has dumped more than 200 mm of rain for only a six-hour period over Laoag, Ilocos Norte, and 169 mm of rain over Vigan for the same period, Cruz said. Pagasa also advised people living in the area to be prepared to experience bad weather as "Pepeng", with speed of 120 kph, has been forecast to exhibit a "looping action" and might pass anew the northern portion of Luzon.
