oe Buckley kicked a 24-yard field goal to lift the Navy Midshipmen to a 38-35 overtime victory over the SMU Mustangs in a non-conference clash.
Vince Murray ran for 141 yards for Navy (5-2), which got 89 rushing yards and a touchdown from Ricky Dobbs.
Bo Levi Mitchell had 201 passing yards and two touchdowns in the painful loss for SMU (3-3).
The score was tied 7-7 after the first quarter, as a 31-yard touchdown run by Navy's Marcus Curry was answered by a three-yard touchdown run by SMU's Zach Line.
The Mustangs dominated the second quarter, as a pair of touchdowns and strong defense enabled the club to hold a 21-7 edge at intermission. Line had a six- yard touchdown run, and Sterling Moore returned a fumble one short yard for another score.
In the third quarter, Navy evened the score at 21-21 with a three-yard touchdown run by Murray and a 12-yard scamper by Dobbs.
Still, SMU was able to go back ahead on the final play of the third period by a 28-21 margin on a six-yard touchdown pass from Mitchell to Terrance Wilkerson.
Navy tied the score less than three minutes into the fourth quarter with a seven-yard Murray touchdown run, and the Midshipmen took a 35-28 edge with a five-yard Dobbs touchdown.
SMU forced overtime with a 10-yard touchdown pass from Mitchell to Aldrick Robinson with 1:35 left, but it was Navy that got the job done in the extra session.
Navy needs one more victory to earn bowl eligibility.
