PAs intends to give Umno a good fight

KUALA LUMPUR: There is no such thing as an Umno stronghold in the Bagan Pinang by-election despite it being candidate Tan Sri Isa Samad’s hometown , says PAS Youth chief Nasrudin Hassan Tantawi.
Nasrudin said that after last year’s general election, Barisan had only won one out of nine by-elections held.
“We remain optimistic that we can win the constituency with our candidate,” he said, dismissing talk that Bagan Pinang was an Umno stronghold.
Nasrudin said it was appropriate to give the opportunity to PAS Negri Sembilan commissioner Zulkefly Mohamad Omar to win the people’s mandate as he was a credible character, professional and had a good academic background.
“Zulkefly possesses a good track record of public service in PAS and in non-governmental organisations. PAS Youth is throwing our full support behind Zulkefly,” said Nasrudin, when met at a PAS open house in Pantai Dalam Saturday.
“However, we are not going to be overconfident. We have mobilised all that we have and plan a strategy that will not only double our chances of winning but also make us win in style,” he said.
He added that the wing also regretted Barisan’s choice of candidate.
“Umno is placing a candidate of no integrity and morals as he was convicted of money politics. The rakyat can see for themselves that Umno is insensitive towards such moral issues,” he said.
“We will leave it to the better judgement of the voters to make the right choice (on election day),” he said.
Polling will take place on Oct 11.
